Pastor David Keating

St. Mark Lutheran Church

Established in 1891 by 8 charter members. Our church and school house were originally near the parsonage on Washington Street, and in 1941, a new sandstone church was built at it’s present location-in celebration of our 50th anniversary.

St. Mark Lutheran Preschool

Our present school was built in 1954 behind the church. We maintain a nurturing environment and have a wonderful social setting to help ease the transition into the school setting. During preschool we will learn and experience many things in both the 3 and 4 year classes.

What We Believe

St. Mark Lutheran Beliefs and Values

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it is true in all it says to us. The Bible is as relevant to today’s problems as it was when it was first written.

“All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be throughly equipped for every good work”
2 Timothy 3:16,17

We believe that God created all things. God also created perfect humans, who then disobeyed Him. All people on earth are now sinful and need to be restored into a right relationship with God.

“There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.”
Ecclesiastes 7:20

We believe that Jesus Christ is God, who came to earth, was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a perfect life for us, took the punishment for our sins on the cross, died and rose again. Through His death and resurrection He has declared our sins forgiven and has given us peace with God and eternal life in body and soul.

“God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”
Romans 5:8

We believe that salvation (rescue) from sin, guilt, and hell is a free ‘gift of God‘ ( Romans 6:23), which cannot be earned by trusting in the good deeds we have done. This rescue is ours when we believe that Jesus died for our sins, rose again, and is alive.

“It is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast. “
Ephesians 2:8,9

We believe that this gift of rescue through Jesus moves us to thankful living: dedication our lives to Jesus, worshiping with our fellow believers, studing God’s Word ( the Bible), praying, loving and serving others, and by telling others about His great love!

“He died for all, that those who should no longer live for themselves, but for him who dies for them and was raised again. “
2 Corinthians 5:15

Baptism

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19)

In Holy Baptism, our gracious heavenly Father liberates us from sin and death by joining us to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
